Who are you?
I’ve gone by many names over the years - Noël, Saint Nicholas, Father Christmas. If you’re nice, you’ll know me as Santa Claus. Mr. Claus, if you’re naughty.
How did you get started bringing gifts and spreading cheer?
Well, I’ve been around for quite some time. Some might say hundreds of years, some might say thousands, but I try not to keep count. All I know is that I’ve been making lists, checking them twice, and finding out who’s been naughty or nice. The rest, as they say, is history.
How do you determine if someone is naughty or nice?
I like to change with the times, so my list-making process has become much more complex over the years. Using computers, the elves and I have created an algorithm to help determine which children are naughty and nice. The important part has been making sure that we keep everything nice and organized. We would hate for nice children to waking up with coal in their stockings by mistake!
How do you make it across the world in only one evening?
That’s a great question! It definitely takes a lot of time, and a lot of cookies, to get me through the evening. I would love to be able to tell you more, but the magic of Christmas must remain a secret.
Ok, it’s time for everyone’s favourite: you’re stranded on a desert island, or in our case a “Dessert Island”. You can take one book, one album, one movie and one flavour of our cookies. Which do you take? Let’s start with the book.
I have so many favourite books: A Christmas Carol, Miracle on 34th Street - they’re all so perfect. If I was going to choose one book, though, I would pick Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer. After all, where would I be without my greatest navigator?
Which album would you take?
I don’t know about you, but I adore Christmas music. That’s why I’d go with Celine Dion’s Christmas album These Are Special Times. A voice like that, singing some of the best songs in the world - it’s no wonder she’s a national treasure!
And what movie?
Over the years, I’ve heard and seen a lot of different stories told about my life. One of my favourites is Santa Claus Is Comin’ To Town. It’s cheerful, uplifting and gives people a nice look into how Christmas began. I could watch it over and over again, that's for sure.
Let's make your island life a little sweeter. We can grant you a lifetime supply of only one flavour of Félix & Norton cookie - we know it’s hard to choose. Which will it be?
Everyone seems to know that cookies are my one true weakness - I can’t say no! I’ve tried so many cookies, from Moose Jaw to Timbuktu, and Félix & Norton’s have to be some of the best I’ve ever had! A batch of freshly baked Milk Chocolate Chunk is my choice, because of those rich chunks of chocolate. I hope I see a few of those on plates this Christmas Eve, they’d be perfect alongside a cool glass of milk.
